Richie Kotzen Nothing to Lose (MP3, CBR, 224 KBPS, HQ) This CD is a contender for album of the year. I may by a bit bias as I am a huge Richie Kotzen fan but then again I couldn't get into his last CD, Get Up, it was good but it was no Slow, or even Change, which both were fantastic. Forty Deuce is Richie's new band. Yeah, it's his band name, but let me make one thing crystal clear, this is 100% Richie Kotzen. Oh My God (I Fucked Up Again) 03. Start It Up 05. Complicated 06.

Next To Me 10. Standing In The Rain 11. Nothing To Lose Code: Bipolar Blues (MP3, VBR, HQ) Richie Kotzen?s latest release Bi-Polar Blues is a retro blues vocal album which showcases Kotzen?s versatility as a gifted songwriter and guitarist. A veritable blues guitar fest, this album is comprised of popular blues standards mixed with strong original compositions that showcase Kotzen tearing it up on his guitar.
Kotzen recorded and produced the album himself, playing most of the instruments (Matt Luneau contributes drums on five tracks and Rob Harrington plays bass on two tracks). Closing out Bi-Polar Blues is the countrified blues instrumental 'Richie's Boogie'. Code: The Inner Galactic Fusion Experiment After recording the 'Tilt' CD with fellow jazz/metal guitarist Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen remained in a fusion head space for a while and decided to record a solo CD in the jazz/fusion vein, hence The Inner Galactic Fusion Experience. To further himself in the fusion style, he called up super bassist Jeff Berlin to play on a few tracks. Drummer Greg Bissonette added his expertise as well, and the combination of these musicians and the songs created a musical bed for what Kotzen calls his most inspired guitar performance to date.
What is unusual is the inclusion of the last two tracks, 'Tramp', a vocal, blues/rock number and 'Last Words' a vocal ballad of sorts. The first seven tracks however, definately fall into the high-tech fusion model and are impressively executed, especially 'Dose' and 'Stark'. Instrumental Guitar (Electric/Fusion/Shred). Code: Richie Kotzen - Richie Kotzen WIth legendary rhythm kings, bassist Stuart Hamm and drummer Steve Smith, 18-year-old Richie Kotzen delivered a set of highly complex instrumentals featuring guitar solos steeped in technique and attitude.
Co-produced by Jason Becker, Kotzen's debut album features unpredictable guitar work and lyrical songs. Released in 1989 during the Shrapnel Records shred metal heyday, this CD has been hard to acquire ever since. Prior to the album's release, at the age of 17, Richie had traveled back and forth across the United States, playing in excess of 500 shows.
It was during that year that Richie released Richie Kotzen on Shrapnel Records and graced the cover of several publications including Guitar World Magazine. Richie's style on this recording travels across rock, fusion and shred, which was initially popularized by Greg Howe on his Shrapnel debut. 'Influenced by American soul legends like Otis Redding, Al Green, Sam And Dave, and Curtis Mayfield, Wilson Hawk reinterprets American Classic Soul and R&B in an era where this genre of music seems to have been forgotten. When asked where the inspiration for this recording came from singer and primary song writer Richie Kotzen says ' This is a record I have always wanted to make.
Growing up just outside Philadelphia I was exposed to a lot of 'real' soul music. Bands like The Spinners, The O'Jays and even early Hall and Oats influenced my writing during my developmental years as an artist.

One night over dinner my long term producer friend Richie Zito (Elton John, Joe Cocker, Cheap Trick) reminded me that I never really made a record that came from these roots. From that meeting, the two of us started getting together religiously every week writing music for what would become Wilson Hawk.' The beauty of this Richie & Richie collaboration is that from the first track it immediately becomes clear that the only motivation behind this recording was one hundred percent soul stirring inspiration. Songs like I Promise I Will, Beautiful Life, Everything Good, and the Road appear destined to become Soul Classics. Fans of inspired music performed by inspired musicians will find 'Wilson Hawk' at the top of their playlists for a very long time.' For those expecting Hard Rock. Expect something else.

Every rock guitarist at some point in their career will make a blues album, and in this respect, Richie Kotzen is no different to anybody else.
What sets him apart though, is his choice of material which shows that he does not follow the well trodden path of others, using no over-used blues standards as might have been expected. When approaching albums such as this, one is always thinking 'sell-out' or 'pad-out' - i.e. Putting an album out just to fulfill recording contract requirements, but this is genuine, heartfelt material and the choice of 'Tobacco Road' rams this point well and truly home - it is awesome in it's delivery and execution and certainly not a song that you would expect to find on a blues oriented album. As ever, Ritchie's guitar is clipped, to the point and well balanced, not the meandering, lengthy and pointless solo's that so many lay down these days and of course then there is his achingly beautiful voice that can soar over the song or cut through it like a knife through butter - just wonderful stuff!
